Samba signing could make Arsenal tempting title bet at 7/2

| 19.01.2011

Arsene Wenger’s creaky defence looks set to get rather more solid in the coming weeks, with the arrival of Blackburn Rovers centre-half Christopher Samba.

With Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci both out with injuries, the Gunners are short of options at the back, but are still in with a chance of upsetting the Premier League odds and winning their first title since 2004 at 7/2.

According to the Daily Mirror, Samba is unsettled at Blackburn following the sacking of Sam Allardyce and would welcome a move away from Ewood Park.

He has been put at the top of Wenger’s wanted list after Bolton ruled out selling Gary Cahill during this transfer window. The Trotters are also thought to want close to £20 million for the England centre-half, which probably rules summer bid by Arsenal.

Samba won’t come cheap though. Rovers know that Arsenal are desperate and will ask for around £10 million for the 26-year-old.

Arsenal have only the tenth best home defence in the league, compared to Manchester United’s first. If the Gunners are to end the dominance of Chelsea and United then they will need to improve that record – something Samba will certainly help with.

If the Gunners do bag Samba, backing them to end the season on top of the Premier League table could be well worth a bet at odds of 7/2 – particularly if you take advantage of a free bet worth £25 by clicking here.

A £25 stake on Arsenal to beat Wigan 4-0 this weekend could return £225. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
