Wright-Phillips can save Fulham from dreaded drop

Fulham need some extra quality in their squad if they are to stave off the threat of relegation from the Premier League this season and manager Mark Hughes believes Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is the man to provide it.

After missing out on Wayne Bridge and Roque Santa Cruz, it is likely to be third time lucky for Hughes as he attempts to raid his former club for some of their unwanted talent.

Fulham are hovering just outside of the bottom three at present and are 5/2 in the Premier League betting odds to be relegated this season.

However, their position could be under further threat if Hughes does not move to bolster their attacking unit, as the club have managed just 23 goals in their 22 league games this season.

Wright-Phillips has substantially fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City this season and needs a move if he wants to get his career back on track.

Bolton have also been linked with the 29-year-old, but their chances of completing a loan deal have hit a snag because of Wright-Phillips’ wage demands.

His salary is also complicating a proposed switch to Fulham, but Hughes is confident that an agreement can be reached.

Their striking situation could be aided by the return of Bobby Zamora, who could be back in action next month, while Cardiff’s Jay Bothroyd has also been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Up next for Fulham in the league is a home clash with Stoke and it is a game that they will feel they should be winning to remain in the division.

Fulham’s betting odds are 5/4 to be Stoke and they have already beaten the opposition away from home in the top-flight earlier in the campaign.
