Blackburn vs Tottenham – Rovers can continue Spurs’ slump

Published:

Tottenham Hotspur’s incredible collapse at Craven Cottage last Sunday has left Harry Redknapp with a lot of work to do in order to prepare his side for their tie with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday.

Both teams are without key defenders, but Spurs may have to hand Jonathan Woodgate a start despite his 14-month absence as Michael Dawson, William Gallas, Younes Kaboul and Ledley King miss out due to injury.

Match Odds

The loss of Ryan Nielsen is a blow to Blackburn but with Spurs fielding a weakened defence, Steve Kean’s side have the potential to upset the odds and are 21/10 to beat Spurs.

Roque Santa Cruz will miss out after injuring himself in the FA Cup tie with Aston Villa, but Blackburn won’t miss him as much as Spurs miss Gareth Bale, and punters should stay away from the 13/10 for Spurs to win.

Spurs have won all of their last three matches against Blackburn but with such a depleted squad, Blackburn, who have won five of their last seven home games, look the pick.

Total Goals

Eight of Spurs’ 10 league wins this season have included a goal from either Gareth Bale of Rafael Van der Vaart, and with Bale missing, the pressure falls on the Dutchman who is 5/1 to score first and 6/4 to score any time.

With key defenders missing on both sides, there could be plenty of goals at Ewood Park on Wednesday night and it may be worth backing a defender to grace the score sheet.

Chris Samba is 7/1 to score any time while Jonathan Woodgate is 12/1 to score any time.

Backing over 2.5 goals looks a strong bet at 5/6 and both teams to score at 4/6 will offer a nice return, as would backing Blackburn to beat Spurs 2-1 at 10/1.

A £25 stake on Blackburn winning both halves would return £137.50. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth £25.
