Leeds are still serious Championship title contenders

Andy O’Brien does not believe that Leeds should be ruled out of the Championship title race, despite their lack of victories in the early part of the new year.

Leeds collected just one win in their first four games of 2011 to slip slightly off the Championship title pace and they are now 20/1 in the football betting to win the title this season.

They did bounce back with a home win against Coventry in their latest league outing and are still positioned in the Championship play-off places, ten points behind leaders QPR.

And defender O’Brien insists that the fact that the club have proved hard to beat this season will ensure they remain in title contention until the end of the campaign.

He said: “It’s been well documented that we’d won one in seven before Saturday, but we’d also lost just one in 16, which is one of the best runs I’ve ever been on.

“It’s a sprint now and whoever wins the most games will get an automatic spot. No games are given to you, and it’s a scrap and a battle.”

Leeds will hope to bridge the gap on those above them in the standings in their next Championship fixture, where they travel to Bristol City.

It is 7/5 in the Championship betting that Leeds secure victory, despite failing to win any of their last four away games in the league.

However, Bristol City have lost three of their last five games, including their most recent two appearances at Ashton Gate.

Leeds will also take confidence from the fact that they have already beaten Bristol City once this season in the Championship.

A £25 stake on Leeds beating Bristol City 4-0, which would be the fourth meeting between the two in succession to feature four goals, would return £1650. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
