Sampdoria vs Inter – Champions to defeat bogey club

Published:

It looks likely that every Italian club’s involvement in Europe will be over within three weeks after a disastrous campaign, but at least Serie A fans can enjoy a riveting title race, the latest twists in which can be expected when Sampdoria host Inter on Sunday night.

Match odds

Sampdoria are unbeaten in three meetings with champions Inter, two of which took place at the San Siro, and haven’t lost in four against the giants in Genoa, but there’s a reason that they are 16/5 to triumph again.

The Blucerchiati started the season to the tune of the Champions League song yet bowed out instantly and have endured constant disappointment since, and a disastrous transfer window in which Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini departed sees them slumped down in 14th.

Inter meanwhile are in their best form all season domestically with nine wins in 11 since Leonardo replaced Rafael Benitez and while they haven’t convinced in recent matches, they continue to grind out results, so 10/11 is an attractive price on the away victory.

Total goals

The big story surrounding this game is the return of Pazzini to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for the first time since his January departure, and the Italy striker is 11/2 to remind Doria of what they had with the opener, having scored three times in four away outings for the Nerazzurri.

Also reunited with former employers is Jonathan Biabiany, the pacey youngster who moved the other way in that transfer, and he is 10/1 to open his Sampdoria account by netting first.

Domenico Di Carlo’s side haven’t scored in five of their last six fixtures though so a rare travelling clean sheet could be on the cards for Inter, who are 11/5 to win to nil.

Inter are 2/1 to lead at half-time and full-time, so a £25 stake would provide a profit of £50. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
