Swansea vs Cardiff – Double derby delight awaits the Swans

There are few Football League derbies as fiercely contested as the south Wales one between Swansea and Cardiff and there’s more than just bragging rights at stake this time as both clubs battle for promotion to the Premier League.

Match odds

Never before in the 26 seasons that Swansea and Cardiff have shared a division has one club beaten the other twice in the same league campaign, however the Swans have a great chance to change that at 6/5 after winning 1-0 in the Welsh capital back in November.

Neither side have been in great form since Christmas, conceding ground to the likes of Nottingham Forest and Norwich, but Swansea have faltered less frequently than Cardiff, who have taken just a point from their last five away games and are deservedly outsiders at 9/4.

The draw is also 9/4 yet in stark contrast to 2009-10 under Paulo Sousa, 11 of the Swans 14 fixtures at the Liberty Stadium have produced a winner, while they’ve triumphed in three of their last four home matches against Cardiff. The Bluebirds last won at Swansea in 1997.

Total goals

The trend for this to be a high-scoring encounter was reversed in Brendan Rodgers’ first derby as Swansea boss as a late Marvin Emnes goal was all that separated the teams. Under 2.5 goals is again the way to go on Sunday at 4/6, with under 1.5 also appealing at 21/10.

Swansea season ticket holders have seen fewer goals than any other set of fans barring Hull and the primary reason is that they are so solid defensively, keeping ten clean sheets in 14 at the Liberty and conceding only five. They are 5/2 to shut Cardiff out and 7/1 to win 1-0.

A £25 stake on the hosts nicking it 1-0 would provide a £175 profit. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
