Barcelona vs Arsenal – Good home form up against poor travellers

Published:

Barcelona have won their last seven home games in the Champions League and it is hard not to see this number extending as they prepare to host Arsenal in the second leg of their last-16 encounter.

Match Odds

Champions League betting odds have Barcelona at 2/7 to beat Arsenal and they must secure victory to progress into the quarter finals, having lost 2-1 at the Emirates in the opening encounter.

Their chances of claiming victory are also improved by the fact that as good as they are at home, Arsenal are as bad away, with the Gunners losing five of their last six Champions League away fixtures.

Arsenal may take confidence from the fact that they lead from the first leg and did manage to score first at the Nou Camp last year, before losing 4-1.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have previously won at the Nou Camp and on the whole Barcelona do not have the greatest record at home to English opposition, winning just eight of their 17 games in Spain.

Arsenal’s betting odds are 15/2 to beat Barcelona, with the draw available at 5/1.

Both teams to score

With Barcelona without both of their typical central defenders Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, Arsenal will believe they can score at the Nou Camp.

Furthermore, all of the last six meetings between the pair have seen both teams find the target and it is 4/6 that neither team keeps a clean sheet again.

Arsenal are the top scorers in this year’s tournament with 20 goals, but statistics show that they may fare better if they fall behind, as they did in the home leg.

This is because the team that has scored first in the last four showdowns between Barcelona and Arsenal have never gone on to win the game.
