Ancelotti 1/4 in Premier League odds to leave Chelsea in summer
Published:Chelsea are yet to confirm if manager Carlo Ancelotti has a future at Stamford Bridge but it is 1/4 that he is not still the boss on the opening day of the next Premier League season.
Defeat to Manchester United in the quarter finals of the Champions League means that a fight with Manchester City and Tottenham to confirm a spot in the top four of the Premier League is all Chelsea realistically have left to look forward to.
It is 5/2 in the Premier League odds that Ancelotti leaves Chelsea before the end of the current campaign.
Winning the Champions League is the only thing that Chelsea have failed to accomplish since Roman Abramovich took over ownership in 2003 and Ancelotti’s main goal upon his appointment was to fill this hole in the trophy cabinet.
But in both of his seasons as manager now Chelsea have failed to inspire in the competition when facing other Champions League contenders.
They lost both legs to Inter in the second round last year and suffered the same fate to Manchester United this time around.
Rumours have been strong that Chelsea would be happy to bring back either Guus Hiddink or even Jose Mourinho to replace Ancelotti if they would be willing to return, but a lack of alternatives could be the one thing that keeps the Italian in the post.
Other factors that may go against Ancelotti is that he has come up short tactically in recent months, changing little when they went on a run of two wins in 11 games in all competitions towards the end of 2011.
Meanwhile, in two months he is still to work out a formation and style to get £50m summer signing Fernando Torres scoring goals.
Torres’ signing is also expected to cause his fellow strikers to leave Stamford Bridge in the close season, as Premier League odds have Didier Drogba at 5/6 to no longer be at Chelsea at the start of the next campaign and Nicolas Anelka at 5/4 in the same market.
