Aston Villa vs Newcastle – Villa 8/11 to seize opportunity

Published:

These two teams both have a point to prove, as this was the fixture that saw Newcastle relegated two years ago, while Aston Villa were humiliated 6-0 on Tyneside in August…

Match odds

Newcastle head to the west midlands with more momentum having thumped Wolves last week to effectively secure survival in their first season back in the Premier League but they are 7/2 outsiders to triumph at Villa Park.

The reason for that is that they have lost on their last three trips there, while Aston Villa’s home record is more fitting of a mid-table side than a relegation battler, so those expecting the visitors to get a result should look at the draw at 11/4.

On a weekend in which West Ham, Wolves and Wigan have all lost though this is a massive opportunity for Villa to move clear of the relegation zone by claiming only their second win in eight, and at 8/11, they are fancied to take it.

Other markets

Only leaders Manchester United have scored more frequently at home this season than Newcastle, who added another four to their tally of 36 against Wolves, however they have found goals harder to come by on their travels.

They have fired just 12 times in 15 games on the road so far and have been shut out in three of their last four, each of which have come against bottom-half teams, so this is a big chance for Villa to keep only their second clean sheet since October at 13/8.

Under 2.5 goals is 5/6 and Gerard Houllier’s men are 11/5 to build on their encouraging draw at Everton by winning to nil here. In terms of scorers, after striking twice at Goodison Park, Darren Bent has to be fancied to net first at 3/1.

A £20 stake on Bent breaking the deadlock would provide a £60 profit. New customers can sign up here to claim a £30 free bet.
