Inter Milan vs Schalke – Italians set to keep up solid title defence

| 05.04.2011

Defending champions Inter Milan have had a rather interesting journey to the Champions League quarter finals.

They finished second in their group to Tottenham Hotspur after defeats against Spurs and Werder Bremen and then proceeded to come through a thrilling last-16 game against last season’s losing finalists Bayern Munich.

Despite being 2-0 down in Germany, the Italian champions fought back to win 3-2 on the night and level the tie at 3-3 on aggregate, with Leonardo’s side progressing on away goals.

Meanwhile, after an opening defeat against Lyon, Schalke are now undefeated in seven Champions League games. However, they’ve only won one of their away games in the competition – a 2-1 win against Benfica – and have kept just a single clean sheet in their previous seven away European games.

Inter were hammered 3-0 at the weekend by bitter rivals AC Milan though, and Schalke can be backed at 11/2 to come away from the San Siro with a victory.

However, Schalke have been in extremely erratic form over recent weeks, losing their last league game against Bayer Leverkusen. Their last eight games in all competitions have seen the Germans win three, lose three and draw two. They have also managed to keep just one clean sheet during that period.

Despite their loss to AC Milan, Inter still boast the best home record in the whole of Serie A and are currently 8/15 to bounce back from that defeat and come away with a win against the Germans.

With Inter Milan also losing just three times in their previous 21 European home games, everything looks set for the Italians to take a big step to retaining their crown.

A £20 stake on Inter Milan to win 1-0 would return £100. New customers can sign up here for up to £60 in free bets.
