McIlroy will bounce back from Masters say Ladbrokes’ golf odds

It was car crash television at its worst, so much so that the network covering the Masters decided against following Rory McIlroy for the final four holes of his round.

The problem was that Angel Cabrera, McIlroy’s final round partner, was still in with a chance of winning which meant every time Cabrera putted for birdie, the camera’s caught McIlroy cutting a solemn figure as he witnessed his four-shot lead deteriorate into Masters folklore.

As the likes of Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and every one of Rory McIlroy’s 218,000 followers on Twitter prayed for the young Northern Irishman, McIlroy’s dreams of winning his first green jacket at the tender age of 21 evaporated, something McIlroy wished he could do on the thirteenth.

The fact that McIlroy’s demise happened over 18 holes and not the final four meant that McIlroy had the whole round to focus on how to take the positives from the situation, and while there’s no doubt the Ulsterman was hurting on Sunday evening, he was able to put on a brave face.

And McIlroy can take condolence in the fact that Ladbrokes make him 4/11 to win a Major in his career, and the 21-year-old has plenty of golf ahead of him in which to do so.

The Ulsterman is 2/1 to never win a major but having progressed to nine in the world rankings at such a young age, a guy with as much talent as McIlroy has, it’s hard to see him not taking one of the majors over the next 20-25 years of his career.

McIlroy, quoted 16/1 to win the Open, has until June to collect his thoughts and challenge on the European Tour before the next Major of the year, and the US Open will provide McIlroy with a great target in which to aim for.

A £30 stake on McIlroy winning a Major in his career would return £40.91. New customers can sign up here to claim a £30 free bet.
