Hiddink may be secretly considering the Chelsea position
Published:Guus Hiddink’s chances of becoming the next Chelsea manager have been handed a boost by revelations that he misses the day-to-day involvement with his players and the lack of games that make up his season.
Current Turkey national team boss Hiddink is 2/1 in the Chelsea odds to be named as the club’s next manager and although hearing of the rumours, he refuses to be drawn into discussions about his future.
However, ahead of Turkey’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Belgium next week, Hiddink hinted that there are elements of club football that he would rather be involved in.
He told television show %100 Futbol: “I have in my career very few games. I want to do more with the players on a daily basis but that is impossible because I am national team manager.
“I have to prepare Turkey and to make sure that no one can blame me afterwards saying I was concentrating on other things. I demand full commitment from myself so I will not go into speculation.”
Aside from his caretaker stint at Chelsea in 2009 when he won the FA Cup, Hiddink’s last managerial role in a club capacity was at Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven in 2006.
Since then he has focused on international management, as before Turkey he also took charge of Australia and Russia.
A host of names have been linked with the Chelsea job, but it is obvious to see why Hiddink tops Chelsea’s shortlist, based on his achievements in the game, which includes a victory in the Champions League final.
Like Hiddink, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is also 2/1 in the Premier League odds to move across London to take charge of Chelsea, while Marco Van Basten remains popular at 3/1.
