Manchester City expected to buy big in the summer

Manchester City have broken new ground in qualifying for the Champions League this season and they are expected to spend big in the summer in order to consolidate this position for the immediate future.

Breaking into the top four would have been the chief goal for Manchester City at the start of the campaign and the chances of this occurring were substantially helped by the fact that they were active in the transfer market over the course of the campaign.

Over £130m has been spent to bring in names including Yaya Toure, David Silva and Mario Balotelli and a similar sum is likely to be spent in the following close season in an attempt to fire Manchester City to the Premier League title.

Being able to offer Champions League football is certainly a massive plus for Manchester City and should help them attract the highest calibre of player, which they may not have been able to 12 months ago.

Meanwhile, they can also offer higher wages than potentially any other club in world football, which would be an added sweetener in any such mega-money deal.

It is 4/9 that Manchester City spend more money in the transfer market than any other Premier League club this summer, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal also among the clubs expected to make widespread changes to their squad.

Robinho remains Manchester City’s record signing at approximately £32.5m, but there is a strong likelihood of this being exceeded this summer.

Manchester City’s odds are 7/4 to spend more than £50m for one player in the summer transfer window, which would match the amount Chelsea recently spent to land Fernando Torres from Liverpool.

If a summer of big spending does take place, Manchester City could be good value at 11/2 to win the Premier League next season, while it is 1/3 that they consolidate their position in the top four.

A £30 stake on Manchester City winning the 2012 Premier League beating would return £165. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
