Monfils to beat Ferrer to keep French Open hopes alive

Gael Monfils may be the underdog to win his French Open fourth round clash with David Ferrer, but he can be expected to reach the quarter finals at Roland Garros by maintaining his 100 per cent career record against the Spaniard.

The French faithful may be relying on Monfils as their best home hope of winning the French Open and he is 3/1 in the tennis betting to beat number seven seed Ferrer.

However, this may be a big price bearing in mind that Monfils has won both of his previous encounters with Ferrer, with the most recent being a five-set thriller in the Davis Cup.

The other victory is perhaps the most notable though as it came on the clay of the French Open in 2008.

Ferrer is yet to drop a set so far this year at Roland Garros in making serene progress through the opening three rounds and is 2/9 to beat Monfils in the French Open odds.

It is 11/10 that he maintains this record and beats Monfils 3-0.

Roger Federer is another player who has looked untroubled in reaching round four and he should collect another routine victory against fellow Swiss star Stanislas Wawrinka.

Not only has Federer already beaten his countryman twice this year, but Wawrinka also heads into the showdown on the back of a testing five-set battle with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Federer is 1/9 to beat Wawrinka and 4/6 looks worth taking that he reaches the quarter finals in straight sets.

Wawrinka does hold a clay court victory in his career over Federer and could pose a threat if his backhand is the potent weapon that it can be.

It is 5/1 that Wawrinka upsets Federer and advances at the French Open.

A £30 stake on Monfils beating Ferrer 3-2 would return £240. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
