Wayne Rooney’s return is a huge boost for Manchester United

| 08.05.2011

The latest reports are that Wayne Rooney will be fit enough to start for Manchester United in Sunday’s Premier League title decider against Chelsea, news that represents a huge boost to the 5/4 favourites to win at Old Trafford.

The England international has been hugely impressive in recent months after a disappointing start to the campaign and has contributed 11 goals since February alone, while his record against the champions is another reason for encouragement.

Rooney has opened the scoring in two of the last three encounters between Manchester United and Chelsea, impressing so much that Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has been quoted as saying that he would prefer to manage him than Lionel Messi.

The 25-year-old sat out the Champions League game against Schalke in midweek with a hamstring complaint to prompt fears that he would be absent today, but as he is believed to have fully recovered, the striker has to be fancied to net first at 9/2.

Didier Drogba is rated the visitors’ most likely deadlock breaker at 5/1, however he has only ever scored one Premier League goal against Manchester United, so those anticipating a Chelsea win at 11/5 may wish to consider other candidates.

Their match-winner in the reverse Premier League fixture Frank Lampard is perhaps that man at 8/1 having fired his side’s first against Tottenham last week and struck the opener against former club West Ham seven days before that.

A £30 stake on Lampard grabbing the first goal would provide a £240 profit. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
