Barcelona refuse to pay over the odds for Arsenal’s Fabregas

| 21.06.2011

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has admitted the Catalan giants are not going to match Arsenal’s valuation of their captain Cesc Fabregas.

The Gunners want £35million for the former Barcelona youth player – a fee the Catalan giants are unwilling to stump up.

However, Rosell has not given up hope of finally taking Fabregas back to the Nou Camp.

Speaking to Catalan station TV3, Rosell said: “Fabregas is doing everything he can to come.

“Guardiola knows the values of players and Cesc’s is less than €40million. Barcelona will offer less and if they don’t accept, then he won’t come.

“Pep knows the club is not well-off in terms of money.”

Despite their reluctance to shell out €40million on Fabregas, Barcelona apparently have no such qualms about spending even more on Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez.

The player’s agent has said a deal to take the Chilean to Barcelona for €45million is practically done, with just a few minor details to be “ironed out.”

Barcelona are huge odds-on favourites to win the La Liga next season and can be backed at 4/9 to win a third consecutive title.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are way out at 8/1 to win the Premier League – they are fourth in the betting behind favourites Manchester United, Chelsea at 5/2 and Manchester City at 7/2.
