O’Brien names So You Think jockey for Eclipse
Aidan O’Brien has unsurprisingly selected Seamus Heffernan to ride So You Think as the horse looks to recover from his surprise Royal Ascot defeat with victory in the Eclipse on Saturday at Sandown.
Ryan Moore was the jockey on board So You Think in the Prince Of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier this month when the horse was caught in the closing strides by Rewilding.
Moore has been in the saddle for each of So You Think’s last two runs, but because of his partnership with Sir Michael Stoute, he will be riding Workfoce in the Eclipse.
This left O’Brien with a bit of a decision to make, but with Heffernan having previously ridden So You Think to victory, the choice was relatively straightforward.
In his first race in Europe, So You Think was an extremely easy winner of a Group Three contest at the Curragh under Heffernan, while the jockey was also successful for O’Brien in a big race at the same track last weekend on Misty For Me.
O’Brien’s wife Annmarie wrote on Twitter: “So You Think will be declared this morning for the Eclipse on Saturday and Seamus Heffernan will be declared to ride him.”
So You Think has been well supported in recent days in the Eclipse odds and has therefore been shortened to 8/11 from 1/1 to register victory.
Workforce is considered to be the only serious challenger at Sandown and is 2/1 to achieve victory.
The big question mark over Workforce is the trip as he tends to be at his best over 1m4f, which he proved in the 2010 Epsom Derby, when not only winning but posting the quickest time in recent memory.
However, it remains to be seen if he is the same force over a distance two furlongs shorter.
