Pick of the Pundits – The best bets of today’s press
Marcus Augustas looks the Nap of the day according to the UK’s most dignified racing hacks.
Yesterday the pick of the pundits was Manoori who duly obliged by a nostril at Nottingham, and there was also plenty of support for Submission who also landed the gamble at Nottingham.
With racing today at seven different courses including Sandown, Hamilton and Lingfield, today’s racing hacks have looked far and wide for their Nap of the day, but there are some consistencies that should be flagged up.
6.00 Sandown: Marcus Augustus (2 Naps)
Just the two Naps for Marcus Augustus today but they come from two of the top three best performing tipsters in the country in Bob Downing of the Shropshire Star and Alan Keyte of the Western Mail.
Both are returning over £12 for a £1 stake on their tips this flat season and their gamble on the Richard Hannon/Richard Hughes two-year-old looks a safe bet at 4/5 considering the connections.
Hannon is a master with a two-year-old juvenile and while the betting market will tell us more as the race draws nearer, Marcus Augustus impressed all who watched in his only start at Salisbury and plenty of improvement is expected, especially with Richard Hughes on board.
3.40 Hamilton: Klych (3 Naps)
Napped by the Sunday Mail, The Times and the Scotsman, Klynch is looking for a fourth consecutive win today.
An 11/8 shot, Klynch will have Shane B Kelly aboard for the first time and the claimer takes 7lbs off his weight of 9st7lb.
Supreme Spirit (7/1) is next in the betting but the David Nicholls horse has been a beaten favourite on his last three starts and Klynch looks the best of a very weak renewal.
Don’t rule out Berbice (16/1) as an each-way shot with Paul Hanagan on board having finished third on two of his last three starts at Hamilton.
