The Safety Net – Slow and steady wins the betting race
Thankfully our new blog got off to a winning start on day one with Maria Sharapova’s victory at the French Open and we are sticking with women’s tennis in the hope of turning over further profit and extending out 100 per cent run to two days.
Starting off with £50, at News.Ladbrokes are looking to find one banker winner from across the sporting world each day and hopefully turn over £7,300 over the course of the year, with a minimum of £20 made on a daily basis.
Well-backed favourites will be our staple, although we took a slight risk on our first day by predicting that Sharapova would not only beat Andrea Petkovic in the French Open quarter finals, but also do so in straight sets at 5/4.
However, the result was never in doubt as the Russian triumphed 6-0, 6-3 and handed us a £20.50 profit for our £18 wager.
With our coughers now bursting at £70.50, we now believe that defending French Open champion Francesca Schiavone will reach the final again by beating Marion Bartoli in their last-four encounter at Roland Garros.
This is the furthest Bartoli has ever got in her home Grand Slam, while Schiavone has won four of the five career meetings between the pair and has picked up three of her four career titles on clay.
Schiavone looks great value at 4/7 to win the match and to meet our obligations of turning over a £20 profit our stake for the day will be £35.
Therefore, if Schiavone does secure her progress into a final with either Sharapova or Na Li, our balance will reach £90.50, while defeat would see us drop back below our starting stack to £35.50.
Today’s stake: £35
Potential win: £20
Best case scenario: £90.50
Worst case scenario: £35.50
