14:15 Goodwood: Labarinto to land gamble on Ladies Day

| 28.07.2011

It’s Ladies Day at Glorious Goodwood and you can expect to see plenty of eye-catchers strolling across the Sussex Down’s later this afternoon.

You can find our eye-catchers for the day here but this preview focuses on the first race at Goodwood and Labarinto looks the pick of the paddock for the Betfred The Bonus King Handicap.

Pushed back to a 14:15 start because of the Ladies Race starting at 13:55, this 1m2f handicap is a strong race for trends and there are plenty that Labarinto fills.

Punters are looking for a horse that has placed in handicap company at 1m2f and finished in the top four last time out.

You’re also looking for a horse officially rated between 91 and 98, carrying 9st or less and has had the fortune of being drawn seven or lower.

This is also a strong race for favourites with five of the last 10 winners starting the race as the favourite and 8 of the last 10 winners coming from the top three in the betting.

Labarinto fulfils all of the criteria and while he was beaten by joint-favourite Fulgar at Newmarket, Fulgar was put up 10lbs for that run while Labarinto was raised just 1lb and that 6lb difference will have a huge bearing on today’s race.

Boogie Shoes also has to be respected and at 10/1 he is a huge price especially after Whiplash Willie’s win yesterday, a horse Boogie Shoes beat at Salisbury in May.

Fulgur is a danger but the handicapper has got a real hold of him so I would fancy both Labarinto and Boogie Shoes, both in receipt of 6lbs from Fulgur, to come home first and second with preference for the former.
