Barcelona to wait until the end of the transfer window for Fabregas

| 19.07.2011

Pep Guardiola insists that Barcelona will continue to fight until the end of the English transfer window on August 31st in their quest to sign Cesc Fabregas.

Sky Sports have reported that Arsenal have agreed to hold talks with Barcelona over the possible sale of Fabregas, which has lingered on for a second summer transfer window in succession.

Barcelona have already had two offers turned down this summer, believed to be £27m and £31m, but it is thought they are working on a value for a third bid.

Arsenal are looking for a transfer sum in the region of £35m, but whether this is the figure that Barcelona have set aside for Fabregas remains to be seen.

According to Sky Sports, Guardiola said: “This year Arsenal has agreed to negotiate and we are working on it.

“Barcelona have made an offer, Arsenal another and we have time until August 31st and we’ll try to reach an agreement.

“The club has saved money to try to sign him. I hope that eventually everything can be arranged. We will fight to the end to try to get Cesc because we believe he will improve the team and the squad.”

It remains 5/6 in the football odds that Fabregas is an Arsenal player on September 1st, although it is the same price that he is plying his trade away from the Emirates on the same date.

However, other comments from Guardiola indicate that Fabregas is not top of his summer shopping list at Barcelona, with a striker more of a priority than a midfielder.

With Bojan close to finalising a switch to Roma, Lionel Messi and David Villa will be the only recognised strikers in the first team and therefore the chase for Udinese’s Alexis Sanchez could take precedence.
