Dalglish is proven at rebuilding Liverpool into winners

Kenny Dalglish has already rebuilt Liverpool into title winners once before in 1988 and there are many similarities in the types of signing he has made this summer ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

Liverpool are many people’s darkhorses to enjoy a fruitful season and are potentially overpriced at 10/1 in the Premier League odds to be crowned champions for the first time since 1990.

Ahead of 1988 Dalglish was given pretty much an open chequebook and told to go out and resurrect his ageing squad.

So out went legendary striker Ian Rush to Juventus and in January John Aldridge was named as his replacement, while Peter Beardsley was also brought in to provide some creativity to the attack.

Arguably, similar deals have been completed this summer by Dalglish, with former hero Fernando Torres leaving for Chelsea and in coming Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, with the Uruguayan potentially filling the role of Beardsley.

Previously Dalglish went out and signed a left-winger to provide pace, creativity and something out of the ordinary when snapping up John Barnes.

Although not completely identical, Stewart Downing will bring a directness to Liverpool’s play and provide some consistent service that the likes of Carroll can thrive off.

The other former acquisition was Ray Houghton, who had an eye for goal and a pass, which are boots that Charlie Adam has the capability of filling.

Throw in the fact that Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard will be desperate to win a Premier League medal with Liverpool before retirement and they have the best right-back in the league in Glen Johnson and these could prove further recipes for success.

At worst Liverpool will be hoping to break back into the top four this season, which is available at 1/1 in the Premier League betting.
