Everton to make a play for out-of-favour Arsenal forward
Published:Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner is likely to leave Arsenal this summer following rumours of interest from several foreign clubs, however Everton are thought to be eager to keep him in the Premier League.
The Toffees finished seventh last season despite having only the 11th strongest scoring record in the division and David Moyes is reported by Sky Sports to have identified the Danish striker as a solution to that problem.
The long-serving Goodison Park tactician is believed to once again have practically no money to spend though so is said to favour a loan move, which may not appeal to the Gunners given their apparent willingness to let him go.
Another potential problem is that Bendtner appears to have his heart set on a change of scenery, with his agent and father claiming interest from Borussia Dortmund that was later denied, and Hamburg and Sporting Lisbon supposedly keen.
Prior suggestions that Fulham are in the hunt too also count against the Toffees, because if the 23-year-old does decide to stay in England, the chance to remain in London rather than uproot to Merseyside could prove attractive.
It has been a typically frustrating transfer window for the top-half regulars so far, with no new arrivals and the usual barrage of speculation that their star performers will be on their way out, on this occasion left back Leighton Baines.
Their uncertain summers usually translate into disappointing starts to the season, yet despite that tendency, odds of 12/1 are offered on Ladbrokes on them being bottom after one game, despite a tricky opener away to Tottenham.
An endless cycle then sees them suffer several false starts in the autumn before exploding into form in the spring and challenging for a place in Europe, only to suffer another progress-halting pre-season. They are 14/1 to make the top four.
