Pick of the Pundits – They think it’s all over at Newmarket

| 22.07.2011

When two of the top three tipsters in the Racing Post naps competition agree, it’s worth taking note.

Rob Wright of The Times and Chris Goulding of the Sunday Express are providing punters with a healthy return of around £15 for a £1 stake with their naps this year, and the two are worth listening too.

They are both taking on the 12-runner field in the Class 3 handicap at Newmarket later this evening and they are both plumping for the favourite.

20:10 Newmarket: Ithoughtitwasover – 7/2

Big things are expected of Mark Johnston’s three-year-old and he races off a very tidy mark in today’s handicap following just two career starts.

A win at Bath in a fair maiden last time out saw Ithoughtitwasover come on huge amounts for his career debut at Haydock, and more is expected to come in today’s handicap.

Ithoughtitwasover faces a number of experience rivals in today’s race and it’s his inexperience that is the major negative and this race will give us an indication of just how good Johnston’s colt can be.

At 7/2 it may be worth taking a punt on Ithoughtitwasover but Sense Of Pride’s experience at this level makes her a more enticing proposition that Ithoughtitwasover and at 4/1, she offers the value over his market rival.

Eltheeb is also one to watch and while winning may be just out of reach, it will be interesting to see whether or not George Moore’s four-year-old can cope at this level.

15:30 Southwell: Barizan – 1/4

Kevin Walsh of the Irish Post is on a terrible streak of 15 days without a winner and the once leader of the naps competition is tipping Barizan today.

While the form of the tipster is a worry, the form of the horse isn’t and Walsh should see his losing streak end today.
