Uruguay vs Paraguay: Suarez can lead his country to Copa America

Published:

The marketing managers have had one very tough job building the hype for this Copa America tournament following the exits of Brazil and Argentina.

Uruguay remain the draw but really it’s been a dour contest in Argentina, highlighted by the fact Parguay are in the final without winning a game.

While the marketing gurus have struggled, the men at FIFA should be ashamed of their rankings system which places Uruguay at 18 in the world.

Following a World Cup semi-final appearance in 2010, Uruguay were bumped up to number four in the world but for some very strange reason they have dropped 14 places in a year.

A win tonight would highlight the faults in the FIFA world rankings and this Uruguay team shouldn’t be underestimated.

All three of the Copa America ties between the two teams have gone the way of the Uruguay team, albeit one of those was on penalties, and Oscar Tabarez’s side look the pick at 10/11 to win tonight.

Despite boasting a forward line that includes Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan, Uruguay haven’t been the most prolific in front of goal in this tournament and a tight game can be expected tonight.

It’s 5/1 that Uruguay win the game 1-0 inside 90 minutes tonight and it’s a very short 4/9 that there are under 2.5 goals in the game.

Only twice in the seven meetings between the two teams has the game produced over 2.5 goals and extra-time is a possibility.

It’s 8/1 that Uruguay win after extra-time and 10/1 that they win via a penalty shootout, but after his two goals in the semi-final Luis Suarez can hold the key to this match.

It’s not often I advocate scorecasts but a 1-0 win for Uruguay with Suarez scoring the opener looks the pick at 14/1.
