Arsenal vs Liverpool: Reds to pile on more misery for Wenger
Published:Arsenal’s disappointing week looks set to get even worse this Saturday as they take on Liverpool at the Emirates.
After starting the week with a poor draw away to Newcastle that included the sending-off of Gervinho and a three-match ban for Alex Song after he stepped on Joey Barton’s leg, things got even worse with Cesc Fabregas joining Barcelona and Samir Nasri continuing to push for a Manchester City move.
A less than impressive win against Udinese in their Champions League qualifying game stopped the rot somewhat, but there can be no disguising Arsenal are currently on a downward spiral.
Meanwhile, Liverpool impressed in the first-half against Sunderland before fading and having to settle for a share of the spoils against Steve Bruce’s side.
The Liverpool midfield looked settled and well balanced – even without the injured Steven Gerrard – and Charlie Adam impressed on his competitive debut.
With Arsenal missing Song and Gervinho through suspension and Jack Wilshere through injury, the Gunners could get overrun in the middle of the park.
The two games between the sides last term finished 1-1, meaning that six of their previous 11 meetings have ended 1-1. You can back the same score in Saturday’s game at 6/1.
However, Kieran Gibbs is missing for the Gunners and, with Luis Suarez up top with Andy Carroll, Liverpool should have enough to take advantage of the threadbare Arsenal team.
Despite not winning away to Arsenal in 11 years, Liverpool look good for the win at 2/1. They had the best head-to-head record against the ‘big four’ last season and should continue their improvement this term.
