Aston Villa vs Blackburn: Villains to give McLeish first win as boss

Published:

If Villa looked rather flat in their opening goalless draw away to Fulham, then Blackburn Rovers looked absolutely dire against Wolverhampton Wanderers as they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat.

Neither side will particularly want to remember those games but, for Aston Villa at least, things should get a lot better this weekend…

Match Odds

Ryan Nelsen and Chris Samba could return at the heart of the Blackburn defence and they should help address some of the defensive frailties that were so evident against Wolves.

However, they will have to be on top form to stop Villa adding to the ten goals they’ve scored in the previous four encounters between these sides.

Blackburn have won just once on their previous 11 trips to Villa Park and it’s hard to see them adding to that total this Saturday – especially considering Blackburn had the worst away defence in the Premier League last term and face the potent threat of Darren Bent.

Backing Aston Villa to win this one looks the best bet at a very decent 8/11.

Goal Markets

While it may not be the most glamorous of games, there have been plenty of goals in the recent clashes between Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers.

Of the last nine meetings between these sides, six have seen over 2.5 goals scored and the last two games finished 4-1 and 3-1 to Aston Villa.

With that in mind, backing over 2.5 goals to be scored at 5/6 looks well worth a punt.
