Inter to make offer for Liverpool star following €99m sale of Eto’o
Liverpool’s influx of new players has meant that competition for places is fierce, so fierce that Dirk Kuyt is considering his options.
The Dutch international has asked manager Kenny Dalglish for clarification on his future, and with Inter Milan chasing Kuyt, Dalglish has to provide answers.
Inter will complete the sale of Samuel Eto’o to Russian club FC Anzhi Makhachkala in a quite remarkable deal worth €99m to the Italian club, and Inter are looking for replacements as they challenge for the Serie A title.
Anzhi are paying €27m as a transfer fee for Eto’o but Inter will save almost €24m a year in wages by losing Eto’o from the wage bill.
Eto’o is currently paid €12m after tax by Inter so that figure doubles when you include the tax and with Eto’o’s contract running until 2014, that’s €24m Inter are saving over the next three years.
That’s €72m Inter are going to save by selling Eto’o and with €27m coming in as a transfer fee, the Inter board has plenty of financial muscle to flex before the end of the transfer window.
Kaka is a priority for Inter manager Gian Piero Gasparini but he faces stiff competition from rivals AC Milan, and Kaka is still hopeful of regaining his place in the Real Madrid team.
Diego Forlan has seemingly changed his mind again and wants out of Atletico Madrid, and Inter are prepared to offer him a route away from Madrid while Kuyt is also a target for Gasperini.
It looks as if Wesley Sneijder will stay at the San Siro next season and Gasperini is confident that he can build a side capable of claiming back the Serie A title they lost to AC Milan last season.
Inter are 6/4 to win Serie A this season and with funds available from the Eto’o sale, that looks a solid price should Gasperini bring in his targets.
