Napoli snub leaves Trezeguet considering move to Swansea

Having failed to secure the services of Marcus Senna earlier in the summer, Swansea have truned their attention to another veteran of European football.

David Trezeguet is currently training with French Ligue 2 side Monaco having been released on a free by Spanish side Hercules this summer, and Brendan Rogers is trying to entice the former French international to the Premier League.

Trezeguet has said that he is keen to move back to France for family reasons, but Italian side Napoli came very close to securing his services a few weeks ago before the deal fell through, and while France remains the likely destination for Trezeguet, Swansea are in with a shout.

“I made a point with my family about my situation,” said Trezeguet. “The conclusion is that it may be time for me to return. Today I want to return to France.

“What is important is to find a club that really matters to me. Napoli? I almost signed there. Napoli is an improving club that will play Champions League and we found an agreement with the chairman.”

“But finally the coach changed his plans. I believe he thought I have too strong a character to accept that I would only play some matches. He didn’t know me.

“On a financial level, obviously France doesn’t have the same means as England, Spain or Italy. But that aspect is not the most important to me.

“I am keen to make sacrifices. The most important thing to me is to find a club that really relies on me. I have big desire to come back.”

Monaco’s relegation for France’s top division last season makes them a last resort for Trezeguet although Nice are interested but are worried about the players wages.

Swansea could stretch to £25,000-a-week for Trezeguet and the thought of first-team football would interest the French international and his experience and goals – he scored 12 for Hercules last season – would benefit Swansea in the race to avoid relegation.
