We have gone for three massively obvious bankers in our selections, with Jelena Jankovic, Sabine Lisicki and Daniele Hantuchova all likely to enjoy comfortable routes into the second round at Flushing Meadows.
In terms of value bets, former French Open winner Francesca Schiavone looks well-priced to beat Galina Voskoboeva and arrives at the US Open having reached the semi finals in her final hard-court preparation tournament in New Haven.
One of our upsets is German Mona Barthel to beat Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, particularly as the Spaniard has been troubled by a left knee injury of late.
Meanwhile, Aravane Rezai can repeat her hard court success over Flavia Pennetta from earlier this year in Sydney.
Rezai also reached the final in Dallas last week before eventually succumbing to Lisicki.
