Top Championship defender to help Blackburn’s relegation battle
Three straight defeats to kick off the new Premier League season is not the start that Blackburn would have wanted and they hope that signing Scott Dann from Birmingham will help turn around their fortunes.
Dann formed a respected partnership for almost two seasons in the Premier League with Roger Johnson, but missed a large chunk of the last campaign with injury as Birmingham were relegated.
Johnson has already sealed a quick Premier League return by signing for Wolves, while Dann has been linked with Liverpool, QPR and Stoke.
However, offers are yet to be forthcoming and it is Blackburn who have reportedly taken the initiative in the race for his signature.
It is being speculated that Blackburn have offered £5m and with Birmingham looking to cut their wage bill where possible, this offer is likely to be accepted, although it is below their valuation.
Dann could prove a more than able deputy for Phil Jones, who Blackburn are yet to replace since he was sold to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window.
Blackburn are yet to keep a clean sheet in any of their four competitive matches this season and this is something that needs to be improved if they harbour serious hopes of beating the drop, particularly given their struggles to score goals.
None of their strikers have found the target thus far in the Premier League, although they will be hoping that David Goodwillie does not take too long to settle following his switch from Dundee United.
Blackburn’s odds are currently 11/10 to be relegated this season, although this price could move to odds-on if they lose again next, away at Fulham.
It is 7/2 in the Premier League betting that Blackburn beat Stoke and 8/11 that they begin the season with four successive defeats.
