Doubtful stayer So You Think cut to win Arc de Triomphe

So You Think may not be naturally suited to the Arc de Triomphe, but given that the field for the Longchamp showpiece this year looks slightly second-rate, there is every chance that he could hand Aidan O’Brien another Group One success.

Since his victory in the Irish Champion Stakes earlier this month, it has been unclear where So You Think would be sent next, with the Arc, the Champion Stakes at Ascot and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes all plausible options.

But O’Brien has now revealed that his five-year-old will run at Longchamp assuming that the ground conditions are not too soft.

This confirmation has resulted in So You Think being cut in the Arc de Triomphe odds to 5/1 from 7/1 and he is certainly the stable’s best hope, despite St Nicholas Abbey also being expected to run.

Pour Moi would have been the logical candidate to win the Arc after his Derby victory, but he has now retired, while there are doubts as to whether Workforce is 100 per cent to defend the title he claimed last year.

So You Think has done little wrong this season in winning on four of his five starts, with the only blip when being collared on the line by Rewilding in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot.

However, whether the horse has the stamina to stay 1m4f against Group One opposition on his first attempt at the distance remains to be seen.

There is certainly the opinion that So You Think will travel well for the opening mile and may still be going well at 1m2f, but the tank could empty quickly in the final furlongs, causing him to slip down the field.

Sarafina currently heads the Arc de Triomphe betting at 3/1, with Workforce available at 5/1.
