Liverpool can show title-winning mettle with Tottenham triumph

Recovering from disappointing setbacks is often regarded as the makings of champions and although winning the Premier League this season may be getting ahead of themselves, Liverpool can show their staying power with a victory at Tottenham.

It is hard to be too critical of Liverpool after their defeat at Stoke for two main reasons.

Firstly, the Britannia Stadium is known to be one of the toughest places to get a result in the Premier League, with Chelsea already also failing to win there this season.

It would certainly be no surprise if Manchester United and Manchester City were among the other clubs to drop points at Stoke later in the campaign.

And secondly Liverpool played too well to leave with nothing, dominating possession, territory and having countless scoring opportunities that they failed to take.

On another day, they could have easily run out 3-1 or 4-1 winners.

Therefore, there is nothing for them to be too downbeat about as they prepare to travel to Tottenham, which could prove a massive game if they harbour serious hopes of finishing in the top four this season.

Spurs and Arsenal are certainly the leading rivals for a Champions League spot and it would be a massive fillip if they can land away victories over both opponents, having already got the better of Arsenal at the Emirates.

Liverpool played 13 times in the Premier League last season after losing previously and had a solid record of winning on seven of these occasions.

What is most notable is that they took three points against West Ham in their fixture after losing away at Stoke.

Meanwhile, they should also need little encouragement and motivation to take the three points, as Liverpool lost both of their Premier League games with Tottenham last season.

Liverpool’s odds are 7/4 to beat Tottenham, with the hosts slight favourites at 13/8 to win.
