Odds suggest Premier League return likely for Beckham
Published:The question remains as to whether David Beckham will return to English football this season, but given his desire to represent Great Britain at the next Olympics, the strong suspicion is that he will.
Beckham’s MLS contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy expires in November and he knows that he will need to find a European club after this point if he is serious about being picked to play in London next summer.
Tottenham and QPR have been the chief two clubs linked with either a loan move or a permanent six-month switch in January, when the transfer window reopens.
However, there is also likely to be interest from elsewhere in Europe, with Beckham previously signing for a AC Milan on similar terms when looking to seal a spot in England’s 2010 World Cup squad.
It is 8/13 in the football odds that Beckham returns to the Premier League this season, with QPR the favourites to sign him at 6/4.
Paying Beckham’s wages and a signing on fee should prove little trouble to QPR owner Tony Fernandes, who has already wasted little time wielding his chequebook at Loftus Road in bringing a host of new faces to the club.
Although Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips have been among these acquisitions, signing Beckham would show even greater intent of their Premier League intentions and also have off-field benefits such as enhancing their presence on a global scale.
However, Fernandes has previously stated that any deal would have to be agreed by manager Neil Warnock first.
Harry Redknapp is also keen on signing Beckham for Tottenham, with the midfielder having trained with the club last season in order to maintain his fitness.
Beckham is 9/4 in the football betting to sign for Tottenham next.
Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is another who would jump at the chance to work with Beckham again, although whether the 36-year-old would want to play at Leicester in the Championship is unknown.
