Tottenham vs Liverpool: Gerrard absence to hinder Reds’ revenge

| 17.09.2011

Liverpool’s great start to the season looks set to suffer a second successive hiccup as Harry Redknapp will continue his great record against them by guiding Tottenham to victory.

Redknapp rested the majority of his first XI for Tottenham’s midweek Europa League tie in Greece against PAOK, which shows how seriously he is taking Liverpool’s trip to White Hart Lane.

The return of the cavalry, including Rafael van der Vaart and Tom Huddlestone to Tottenham’s midfield, will provide cover to cope with Liverpool’s good form.

Tottenham are narrow favourites at 13/8 in the Premier League odds and since Redknapp took over as manager he has won five of his seven meetings with Liverpool.

Liverpool will be eyeing a victory after their disappointing defeat at Stoke in their latest game, but will have to do without club captain Steven Gerrard again, who is still not match fit.

However, Kenny Dlaglish does have his team playing well and will fancy his team scoring with Spurs having conceded as many goals in their last six home games as they had done in their previous 25.

Liverpool will also be buoyed by the fact that they have not won at White Hart Lance since December 2006 and lost both Premier League meetings with Spurs last season.

It is 7/4 that Liverpool get their campaign back on track with a victory.

With Tottenham being so generous at the back, Luis Suarez looks the pick of the first goalscorer market at 5/1, although Emmanuel Adebayor could be better value at 7/1 to add to his debut goal at Wolves since arriving from Manchester City.

When Tottenham’s good home form versus Liverpool is factored in, the Goal Crazy option of 2-3 goals at 10/11 also may be worth considering.
