Wenger still 5/1 in sack race after nervy Arsenal Carling Cup win

Despite all the positivity from the likes of chief executive Ivan Gazidis and the fact that the club overcame a Carling Cup banana skin at home to Shrewsbury, Wenger remains 5/1 in the Premier League odds to be the next to go.
This is Wenger’s first real troublesome period in the Arsenal hotseat since taking over as manager in 1996 and because of the longevity of his success, the board have said that he will not be sacked.
However, there is still a chance that Wenger himself will quit if results do not improve in the coming month, especially in the Premier League.
One of the big reasons why Wenger may be next to leave is because no other Premier League clubs can realistically afford to change their managers or are unable to make an appointment better than they already have.
Steve Kean is the favourite at 5/4 in the Premier League betting to be the next boss out, but Blackburn’s financial issues have been well documented this summer as they struggled to make any major signings.
Therefore, they may be unwilling to pay Kean compensation and then also pay compensation to another club for signing their manager.
The same problems may also exist for Aston Villa after Alex McLeish’s slightly slow start.
Other clubs that have made a poor start may be reluctant to change managers as their current boss is particularly highly rated.
Everton may feel that they will weaken further if they get rid of David Moyes, while Bolton will feel that Owen Coyle still has something to offer.
