Expect goals between Man United and City after European wins
Published:The Champions League is out of the way for another fortnight and Manchester United and Manchester City can now focus on their crunch derby game this Sunday.
City needed a last minute Sergio Aguero strike to win against Villarreal on Tuesday, while United dismissed Romanian side Otelul Galati thanks to two second half Wayne Rooney penalties.
United now head into the game at Old Trafford as favourites at 10/11 with City out at 13/5 to win their first game at United since 2008.
While chances and goals were hard to come by for both sides in their games last night, that certainly hasn’t been the case in the recent encounters between the teams at Old Trafford.
Five of the previous six games at United have seen at least three goals scored and you have to go back seven games to 2004 to find the last time there was a goalless draw.
Last season’s Premier League game ended 2-1 thanks to Wayne Rooney’s stunning bicycle kick, while United won 3-1 in the Carling Cup the previous season and 4-3 in the league after Michael Owen’s last minute winner.
The 2008/09 season saw United run out comfortable 2-0 winners but the two games prior to that saw City come away with a 2-1 win and United claim a 3-1 victory in 2006/07.
With Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko all in excellent form, a punt on plenty of goals at Old Trafford this Sunday could lead to a very tidy pay out.
