Wigan vs Fulham: Premier League strugglers poised for close clash

Published:

It may not be the most glamorous tie of the weekend, but Fulham’s trip to Wigan is a huge game for both teams.

The Latics have shown little this season to suggest they can stay up, while Fulham have won just one of their opening nine games this term.

With two teams struggling to find any sort of form, this could be an extremely tight affair…

Match odds

Everything about this game is pointing towards a draw.

The previous five meetings between these sides at the DW Stadium have all finished level and, with Fulham winning just two of their previous 14 on the road and Wigan losing seven consecutive games, this also looks like being a tentative affair.

Backing the draw at 23/10 looks like the most tempting of the match bets.

However, if you fancy something a little more exciting then Fulham are available at 6/4, while Wigan can be backed at 9/5 to get their first win since a 2-0 victory against QPR back in August.

Goal markets

It’s a shame there’s no market available for which game will be shown last on Match of the Day because this match would be well worth a punt on.

Don’t expect goals in this clash, with Wigan last scoring more than one in their August win against QPR and Fulham only hitting one in their previous three.

With only one of the previous 13 games between these sides yielding more than two goals, backing under 2.5 goals at 4/6 looks tempting.

If you remain optimistic about there being goals though, then Bobby Zamora is favourite to find the net first at 5/1 – despite his horror miss against Everton last week.
