Wolves vs Newcastle: Toon to extend unbeaten record

| 01.10.2011

The last time Newcastle went ten games unbeaten in the top flight was August 1997 and the Magpies will look to continue their good form when they travel to a Wolves side they have never lost against in the Premier League.

Newcastle’s odds are 2/1 to beat Wolves and a victory would guarantee that they remain in the top four in the Premier League standings at this early stage of the campaign.

But they will have to get a result without the help of Shola Ameobi, Alan Smith and Mike Williamson, who are still injured.

Although Newcastle have not lost in their last nine league games, they have only managed four victories.

Newcastle’s form and propensity for sharing points on their travels suggests a draw at 23/10 is possible option.

Meanwhile, three of their four meetings in the league have ended 1-1 between Newcastle and Wolves.

Therefore, this looks a good punt at 14/1 and even more so considering Newcastle’s three draws this season have come on the road.

Wolves have lost their last two home games, but are boosted by the news that Steven Fletcher, the goal scorer at Anfield last weekend against Liverpool, is fully recovered from a groin strain.

It is 7/5 in the Premier League odds that Wolves beat Newcastle.

Wolves might find it hard to score, given that Newcastle have the best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season, conceding just three times.

Although at home at Molineux, Wolves are 12/5 not to score.

Fletcher’s Anfield strike was their first goal in over six hours of league football. The Magpies are 12/5 to keep a clean sheet.

Leon Best and Demba Ba are Newcastle’s top scorers with three goals apiece and both appeal in the first goalscorer market at 7/1.
