Liverpool vs Man City: Reds can add to Mancini’s dreadful week

| 26.11.2011

Manchester City have enjoyed a brilliant start to their Premier League campaign and are undefeated as we head into December – but all that could be about to change.

They suffered a momentum-sapping defeat against Napoli in the Champions League that leaves them staring down the barrel of a Europa League campaign and now face a Liverpool side who have shown they have more than enough to compete with the teams above them in the table.

With City deflated following their European disappointment, Liverpool will not have a better chance to see off the Citizens…

Match odds

Man City are the 7/5 favourites heading into this game and, after winning five and drawing one of their previous six Premier League away games, they will get plenty of backing.

However, the Reds have a brilliant record against the Champions League teams and, since Kenny Dalglish returned to the Anfield hot seat, they have won five, drawn two and lost none of their games against the foursome.

They saw off City 3-0 in April last season and backing the Reds to come out on top again at 15/8 could lead to a very decent payout.

Goal markets

Andy Carroll found the net twice in the last encounter between these sides and can be backed at a pretty big 9/4 to find the net again this Sunday.

However, a better bet may be to back over 2.5 goals at 8/11.

All of City’s previous ten games have yielded over 2.5 goals, while the last time the Reds played out a goalless draw with any side in the top half of the Premier League was when they played a far more defensive Man City side in February 2010.

With Liverpool having a week off after their 2-1 defeat of Chelsea, backing over 2.5 goals at 8/11 looks well worth a punt.
