Nadal vs Federer: Three sets looks likely again in Group B

Published:

It is almost a 50/50 decision attempting to work out who will win between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the second round of Group B showdowns at the ATP World Tour Finals and this is the reason it may be best to focus on set betting.

Federer comes into the tournament as arguably the player most in form, winning indoor hard court events in Basel and Paris before arriving in London.

This form makes him not only the favourite to beat Nadal at 1/2 in the tennis odds, but also the favourite to win the whole tournament.

Meanwhile, Federer also beat Nadal in the final of the ATP World Tour Finals last year to win the tournament for a record-equalling fifth time.

However, on the whole if there is one player that Federer has difficulty getting the better of then it is mainly Nadal.

Nadal has beaten Federer in five of their last six showdowns, with the defeat in London last year being the one break from the norm.

The Spaniard has also triumphed in 18 of his 26 career showdowns with Federer, although admittedly a large number of these successes have been on clay.

Still, in terms of picking the winner, Nadal has to be considered the value bet at 13/8 to make put one foot into the semi finals of the ATP World Tour Finals with victory.

But it is the 11/8 that the clash goes to a deciding third set that looks the pick of betting markets available.

Both players needed three sets to win their opening matches in London and their clash in the final last year also went the distance.

The fact that the game looks destined for three sets could also mean that it may pay to back to both Federer and Nadal to win 2-1, which are outcomes that are available at 3/1 and 7/2 respectively.
