Scorned Croatia can ease to Euro 2012 at Turkey’s expense
Published:Croatia looked like a wounded animal when taking on Turkey on Friday night, and on that evidence it looks difficult to back against them comfortably progressing to Euro 2012.
3-0 victors in Istanbul, 4/6 Croatia appear to have far too much quality to worry about the threat of Turkey in Zagreb on Tuesday, and the 6/1 for the home side to triumph 2-0 looks an appealing bet.
The visitors, priced at 4/1, look a far cry from the “sleeping giant” that finished in third place at the 2002 World Cup, and while the side still features some talent that ply their trade among Europe’s elite such as Hamit Altintop of Real Madrid, it is a far cry from the star-studded outfit that graced that major tournament.
They will be fired up to avoid an embarrassment, however, and it could be wise to pay attention to the 5/2 price attributed to the draw, and the larger 9/2 for both halves to finish all square.
You would have to believe that if the draw was to occur though, that Turkey would have to find the net, as it is difficult to look past the impressive firepower within the Croatian ranks.
With this in mind, although only a short price, the 10/11 for both teams to score could prove a smooth punt.
Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic will be eager to race out of the blocks again, and is 9/2 to follow up his second-minute strike in Turkey with the first goal in this tie too.
Former Arsenal striker Eduardo is available at the same price to hit the first goal, and his finishing prowess should always be respected.
If you fancy Croatia to continue the trend they set in Friday’s meeting, following up a rapturous start with a thoroughly professional and efficient performance, 11/4 seems a good price for Slaven Bilic’s men to win both halves again.
