Some horses to follow on day one of the Breeders Cup
There are six races making up day one of the Breeders Cup and although the bigger races are on the second day, there is still some fine racing to look forward to.
20:10 – Breeders Cup Juvenile Sprint
Of all the favourites in the Breeders Cup betting, Secret Circle looks potentially the most secure thanks to his two blistering victories in the two-year-old ranks.
Secret Circle is 4/5 to triumph, while Shumoos could prove an each-way steal at 12/1 given the speed he has shown on the all-weather in England.
20:50 – Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
If the early pace is quick, the race could be set up for Somali Lemonade to make it three wins from three with a trademark late burst at 4/1.
Aidan O’Brien’s first Breeders Cup runner this year is Up and she was impressive on a step up to 1m on her latest start. Up could be the each-way alternative at 10/1.
21:30 – Breeders Cup Filly Mare Sprint
Turbulent Descent has never been outside of the first two in eight career starts and arrives at Churchill Downs on the back of her best ever performance.
She is a worthy 2/1 favourite, while Musical Romance appeals each-way at 14/1 as she will certainly be one of those finishing quickest in the closing stages.
22:10 – Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies
Lots of unbeaten runners in the line-up all open to further improvement and have previously triumphed in Grade One company, which makes this perhaps the trickiest race to call on day one.
Slight preference is for Weemissfrankie at 8/1, who may just be staying on best in the closing stages.
22:50 – Breeders Cup Filly Mare Turf
Stacelita is a numerous winner of Grade One races and has beaten many of her Breeders Cup rivals previously. She looks a big price at 7/2.
23:30 – Breeders Cup Ladies Classic
Having been running admirably against the men this year, Miss Match looks overpriced at 12/1 now back against her own sex.
Plum Pretty is the well supported 3/1 favourite, but may not get the run of the race up front.
