Ghizao and Quantitativeeasing will push Great Endeavour
Published:The Spinal Research Gold Cup at Cheltenham this Saturday is shaping up to be a thrilling race as Paddy Power Gold Cup rivals Quantitativeeasing and Great Endeavour once again do battle.
The David Pipe-trained Great Endeavour came out on top that day with Quantitativeeasing finishing in second.
That was the last time the five year-old Quantitativeeasing ran though and he has been primed for this race – something trainer Nicky Henderson believes will see him get revenge on Great Endeavour.
He said “He ran a great race in the Paddy Power and has been very well since. I could have done without him going up in the ratings but otherwise I am happy.”
With Woolcombe Folly at the head of the field, the weights are due to go up to 4lbs but, with Quantitativeeasing fresh and in great form, he will be tough to beat at 6/1 – especially as Great Endeavour has been raced pretty heavily in recent weeks.
Following his Paddy Power Gold Cup victory, Great Endeavour ran in the Hennessey just a fortnight ago and finished fourth.
Pipe has admitted his preparations are “not ideal” but remains convinced of his chances as 6/1 joint-favourite.
However, the greatest threat could come from the Paul Nicholls-trained Ghizao.
The Ruby Walsh-ridden horse has been raced sparingly throughout the year and, despite a disappointing run at Exeter at the start of November, he is currently 8/1 to continue Nicholls’ incredible season.
Nicholls is currently 1/3 to win the Trainers’ Championship and those odds could come in even further following Saturday’s race.
