Ladbrokes offer up special market on Heathrow to be battered by wind

Gale-force winds and heavy rain have been battering Scotland in recent days and, with the storms set to spread, Ladbrokes now have a special market on what the highest wind speed recorded at Heathrow Airport will be by Friday night.

Winds have reached speeds of up to 165mph in Scotland with severe disruptions to traffic and electricity supplies as vehicles and power lines are brought crashing to earth.

It doesn’t look as though things will get quite as bad down south though with the current favourite in Ladbrokes’ Highest Wind Speed at Heathrow market being 51-80mph at 7/4.

However, the Met Office has issued yellow warnings for strong winds and heavy rain for England tonight – and it’s the South East that’s expected to be hardest hit.

Wind speeds of more than 100mph can be backed at 3/1, while second favourite in the betting is winds of 81-100mph at 2/1.

The Met Office has got things spectacularly wrong before though – most notably when Michael Fish warned Britain not worry hours before the Great Strom of 1987 that caused over £7billion worth of damage.

If you think they’ve got it wrong this time then a peaceful week of sub-30mph winds can be backed at a rather long 8/1.
