Ladbrokes World Championship: Van der Voort to lead upset wins
Published:After a three-day break for Christmas, the second round of the Ladbrokes World Championship continues to take place at Alexandra Palace and two underdogs can progress in the afternoon session.
John Part is bidding to extend his 100 per cent winning record against Richie Burnett, while fast-throwing Vincent van der Voort faces Andy Hamilton.
Meanwhile, plenty of experience will be standing at the oche in the other showdown between Terry Jenkins and Co Stompe.
Terry Jenkins to beat Co Stompe @ 4/9
Jenkins hardly put a foot wrong in defeating promising youngster Joe Cullen in the opening round in what was billed as a potential banana skin and triumphed in his only another meeting with Stompe in 2011 in Crawley in May.
Like Jenkins, Stompe enjoyed a comfortable passage to round two by also winning in straight sets, but with a much lower three-dart average in defeating debutant Michael Smith.
Jenkins believes he is mentally in the right frame of mind for a big tournament and is seeing success on the practice boards, so if bringing this to the stage at Alexandra Palace, he can move into the last 16.
John Part to beat Richie Burnett @ 11/10
Burnett may have shown greatly improved form in the last two years since slipping out of the top 100 and beaten two-time semi finalist Mark Webster in the opening round, but history suggests he will be unable to repeat this against Part.
Part has won all seven of their previous showdowns, while four of these victories have arrived this year with an overall score of 24-5.
Therefore, not only is it a surprise that the Canadian former world champion is the underdog, but there are some big prices on offer in the set betting market, with Part to win 4-1 standing out at 7/1 in the darts odds.
Vincent van der Voort to beat Andy Hamilton @ 11/10
Hamilton may have won all three encounters between the pair this year, but Van der Voort showed signs of a form improvement in his opening-round success over Mark Hylton.
The Dutchman scored 11 180s and ended with a three-dart average in excess of 95 and a similar display can see him win again.
