Masters Snooker: ruthless Robertson can claim maiden title

| 22.01.2012

The Masters final this Sunday sees two former world champions face off in what promises to be an extremely tight game.

Neil Robertson heads into the clash as the narrow favourite at 5/6 while Shaun Murphy is out at 1/1 to claim his first Masters title.

Both players are making their first appearance in the final of the event thanks to excellent wins in their semi-finals.

Robertson and Murphy were underdogs in their last four games with Judd Trump and John Higgins respectively but both produced solid performances to make it to the Alexandra Palace final.

Robertson’s game with Trump was surprisingly scrappy – maybe because the Aussie was forced to use a new tip on his cue – but he showed that, even when not compiling big breaks, he has what it takes to grind out wins.

Although not a ranking event, the Masters is a massive tournament and Robertson has won all six of the ranking event finals he’s been in.

He is rightful favourite against Murphy, but the Englishman has a 6-5 advantage over him in their head-to-head meetings.

Backing Robertson at 5/6 looks the most tempting of the match bets but, with their last meeting needing a deciding frame for Robertson to prevail, backing Robertson to win by 1-2 frames looks well worth consideration at 4/1.
