Scholes and Henry can light up crunch Arsenal and Man Utd clash
Published:Paul Scholes and Thierry Henry’s combined age adds up to over 70 years but, despite their extra miles on the clock, both players returned to their former clubs like they’d never left.
And now the pair will come face to face when Arsenal host Manchester United in a crucial Premier League game for both sides.
There’s no question that they don’t have the same spring in their step as they did in their heyday but, with over 1,000 professional matches under their belts, it’s hardly surprising.
However, it seems that experience has more than made up for a touch of rustiness in recent matches.
Scholes, 37, and fresh out of retirement, scored his first league goal at Old Trafford in nearly three years during United’s 3-0 win over Bolton.
Five days earlier, Henry, 34, on loan from the New York Red Bulls, scored the goal to give the Gunners a 1-0 win over Leeds in the third round of the FA Cup. B
However, despite the rave reviews these two players have received on their return, Scholes’ tackle on Mark Davis against Bolton last week reminded us what a bad tackler the pint-sized former England international is, whilst Henry’s cursing of an Arsenal fan at Swansea illustrates the intensity behind the nice-guy image.
Plenty of attention will be on the veterans, but Scholes to score before Henry at 8/1 could well work out to be a shrewd bet.
You can get 40/1 on Henry bagging a hat trick or a massive 200/1 on the United midfielder scoring three.
The Frenchman is 3/1 to hug manager Arsene Wenger should he score against the Red Devils, whilst Scholes is 12/1 to give Sir Alex Ferguson the same treatment.
