The Weekly Accumulator: Derby’s winning run is far from over

| 21.01.2012

This week’s Championship recommendation packs monster odds of 15.5/1 despite featuring only three teams. Can Robins, Rams and Royals combine to make it a successful Saturday?

The first selection for our latest accumulator is Bristol City, who are 5/6 to further enhance their survival prospects by conquering second-bottom Doncaster.

Derek McInnes’ side have won three and lost just one of their last five fixtures at Ashton Gate, so their chances have to be fancied against a club whose recent home form has been undermined by a run of five straight away defeats.

Reading are a slightly bigger price at evens to overcome Hull, who head to the Madejski Stadium level on points with them in fifth place. Last season’s play-off finalists have triumphed in eight of their last 11 games, and five of their last six.

Their visitors were unbeatable on their travels at the peak of Nigel Pearson’s tenure, but tailed off towards the end of his reign and have continued to struggle under Nick Barmby. The Tigers have suffered four reverses in six on the road.

Our third and final pick is the most ambitious of all, backing Derby to maintain their current winning streak at Turf Moor, where Burnley are rated 5/6 favourites even though their opponents have claimed four successive victories.

Given that Leeds, West Ham and Hull are among the teams that they have thwarted in that period, 7/2 looks a generous figure on Nigel Clough’s men making it five.

Their hosts have been pretty impressive themselves of late, however they always appear vulnerable to disappointment on home soil, already losing five times in front of their fans this term. Four of those setbacks came against top-half rivals.

Championship selections
Bristol City to beat Doncaster @ 5/6
Reading to beat Hull @ evens
Derby to win at Burnley @ 7/2
