Punters lumping on Tottenham as blistering form continues

Following a run that has seen them lose just one league game since August, Tottenham must now be considered genuine title contenders.

Their 2-0 triumph over Everton at White Hart Lane lifted them to third place, level on points with second-placed Manchester United, and just three points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Still available at 20/1 to win the Premier League on New Year’s Eve, the Lilywhites are now priced at 6/1 to claim a first ever title in the top division in its current format.

What is more incredible is the fact that Spurs kicked off the season as 66/1 shots, sixth favourites for the title, and had drifted to a monstrous 150/1 following their 5-1 home thrashing at the hands of Manchester City back in August.

With immense strength in depth evident throughout the Tottenham ranks, it should really be no great surprise to see them performing so well, but that Harry Redknapp would have the audacity to try and break the stranglehold of ‘the big four’ as he did the season before last, was difficult for some punters to fathom.

Indeed, Redknapp’s tremendous work at the helm of the North Londoners has not gone unnoticed, with the odds on him becoming the successor to Fabio Capello as England manager cut shorter to 6/4.

Braver punters could be tempted to take advantage of the 10/1 odds on offer for Redknapp to lead Tottenham to Premier League glory before taking control of the country.

Bearing in mind that Tottenham’s title charge is gathering momentum with every passing game, and with Redknapp seemingly the absolute stand-out candidate to be the next England manager, it could be a bet worth considering.

A measure as to how far Tottenham have come under Redknapp in these past few short months is indicated by Spurs’ price of 33/1 to achieve a Premier League and FA Cup double.

Their price for this domestic double at the season’s inception was an astronomical 750/1.
